I have a 2012 Shelby, first one I have ever owed. It's got a few hundred miles on it now. My question is, when starting it. It's seems to turn over more then it should to start. IMO. Also it seems inconstant too, as far how many times it turns over each start cycle. Is this normal? Should I take it in?

How long are you letting it sit? Could be that the fuel pressure has to come up if it's been a while.

I meant inconsistent.. I've only had it a week. So I've been doing a lot of cruising. In general it turns over roughly 5 to 6 times before starting. Just dose not seem right to me. Seems like too many revolutions before starting. Maybe it's normal, idk.

try something;

Turn the key until it's in the "Run" position, but don't start it. If you listen carefully you should hear the fuel pump come on. After a few seconds of waiting with the key in the "Run" position try to start it. If the trouble was because of low fuel pressure to begin with, then it should start right away.

Can you catch the problem on camera? I saw a similar issue with a member on the Team Shelby forums I think. His was the early signs of a failing fuel pump and eventually got it replaced.

I personally do what Geoffcin does though, just turn the key to the run position, and after all the gauges finish moving and resettle I turn the engine over. Starts right up without a hitch.

Also turn the key in the start position and let it go, the car takes over from there.

like the guys said, might be signs of a potential failing fuel pump. did you ask the dealer to take a look at your car to see what they think? the can plug in the comp and look up your fuel pressure readings when cranking the car

No, I didn't have the Shelby with me at the time. I told them, I would be back so they could ck it out though. Thanks guys. It's always something! :) Are fuel pumps a common issue on the Shelby?

Could be a fuel pump, could be a leaky check valve, although they are probably both bundled into the in-tank fuel pump assembly. If it's just a slow loss of pressure after the car has been off for a few hours it would not affect drivability.

The one thing that is consistent is the fact that it takes longer that normal to start IMO. There was a few times when I thought it wasn't going to start at all. I kinda blew it off at the time. I'm thinkin this is a brand new car it had to be a ok and it would work itself out. Just going have to get to the dealership to get to the bottom of this. However, I remember listening to the fuel pump, when I turn the key. I know what they sound like, in general have had several stangs. With the Shelby I heard the pump when it came on but it had 3 consistent sounds. Kinda like the pump turned on 3 times in row. Never heard that before. Is that normal?

My car is new too. I turn the key 'on' until I hear the pump turn off, then I start it....it never just takes off like most other cars I had, but it is consistent every time...and I only hear the pump one time....

Hearing the pump three times after turning the key is not right. You should hear it come up to pressure and that's it (once). At least that's the way my car is.

Ok, I waited a till gauges stopped moving and started it a few times. I have to say it was a big improvement. Patience was never my strong suit in certain situations. As far as the pump noise I heard it's really kinda hard to describe. Almost like it is pumping up the fuel system all in a seconds time. Not loud at all, I could just be over analyzing the the situation. I've been know to do that sometimes. Regardless if there is a problem, thats what warranties are for. The main thing is, it's starting just fine now. Thanks for all the tips. Much appreciated.
