Nobody ever said racing was cheap! LOL!
I haven't looked into the price, but unless some other family or other commitment comes up, I am going to Daytona.
You only live once, and you never know when your time is up.
Might never have another chance, you never know...

my dad raced gt1 in the scca for several years and he took me go kart racing before he recently passed away. so I have an idea what RACING costs. I figured an open track day wouldn't cost half this month. I'm only 20 and I dont make enough to justify spending this much on a weekend at the track plus fuel on my truck and the wear and tear on the car. I might still come and spectate to be able to meet everyone if I am allowed to do so. I did already take off work, But If I had the expendable income there would be no hesitation.

Keep something in mind. Daytona costs per hour what other tracks charge for a day.

If you are spectating at the event there has never been a charge to drive into the infield and pit area to spectate. Things change but this has been the norm in the past.

Wasn't trying to be obnoxious... I understand what things were like when I was 20. Least you could come spectate...

Wonder what kinda gas mileage you get on that race tune!! Me thinking 2-3 MPG!!

Fuel use will be high-Bring several fuel cans and DONT use the BP station near the track-

Isn't there race fuel available AT the track??

Yep I'm thinking I'm at about 6-8 MPG on the street with my foot OUT of the throttle!

I am at the same mileage you get,I have not seen anybody use the race fuel at the track-I would think you would need a tune to match the fuel but maybe not.Typically you will get 8-9 laps at 3.5 miles per lap per session.

Good to know on the mileage! I think you can actually see the fuel gauge move!!

I did get a race tune for 98 or 100 octane. I'll use that if they've got the fuel there. I'm not going to be bringing fuel cans.

So you're saying, we get 8-9 laps x 3.5 miles per lap that's like 31.5 miles for 9 laps. Your gonna burn through 5.25 gallons at 6 mpg? I bet at the track it's more like 2-3 mpg. So you gonna burn through basically a near full tank each session if I'm reading you right. good to know.

got to talk my wife into this event, and hopefully bring her and the kids along.

If it helps convince her my Wife and 12yo son will be attending. You will need fuel containers-I will also have a truck to make fuel runs as will Van.With the stock fuel system I used 1/2 a tank a session once I felt comfortable on the track. As far as the race gas you may want to mix with the 93-And consider the price of trackside Sunoco race fuel-Probably over 8 bucks a gallon.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm not familiar with the layout of the track fuel pumps, etc. I don't have any fuel containers. I'd be happy just filling up with the track fuel, even if it is 8 per gallon, as long as I don't need to drive off the circuit to fill up. I'm sure I don't want to cart around fuel containers in my car before, but certainly after the sessions. Suppose I could always abandon them or give them away at the end of the day. Sounds a bit like the overpriced soft drinks, and beer they sell at Disney and other FL attractions!

Was planning to hang with Van and company if I go. Since I've never driven on a track before, I'm definitely going to need some instruction behind the wheel and everywhere else too!

Its all good,There will be plenty of support and really good instructors. The fuel pumps are easy to get to-I think you can go to the Track website and see a layout.
