: Another 2nd Gear Shifter Concern

Just drove the Shelby again today and I notice that when holding the gear shift level over to the left when shifting from 1st to 2nd, when in 2nd if I am still slightly pulling the shift level towards the left, I hear a slight noise. This is after it is already in 2nd gear. In other words, to keep it from going from 1st to 4th when shifting from 1st to 2nd, I pull the shifter down and slightly to the left. Again, when in 2nd, I can make it make this noise, almost like a rubbing or slight (gosh I hate to use the word) grinding noise.

Anyone else ever notice this issue? I have a 2012 GT500 with 800 miles and it has done this since day one!

Thanks in advance for the replies :)

My 09 has 3k miles on it, and I experience the exact same issue. I dont necessarily think that means we have a problem, just think possibly the synchros are just noisy(dont know what material they are made from). Someone else might have better insight towards the issue. I dont pull it anymore I just put it to second and leave it alone(dont touch the shifter)

Don't know what it is but every manual car I have driven does this. Like said before stop pulling it or you may go blind.

I may be wrong but I think that when you apply a side load to the shifter handle it is transmitting to the shift fork inside the trans and causing the fork to rub against the set of gears it moves. So, I wouldn't put a continual side load on the shifter handle as said already. Our 2012 doesn't seem to make this vibration but we've only put 500 miles on it so far. I will often keep my hand on the shifter if I anticipate repeated gear changes but don't apply pressure. I'll try to remember to check next time I drive it.

arnt the gt500s using a different transmission than the gt ( wich are haveing the issue) the gt500s I believe are using the same transmision the caddy cts-vs are using.

Now I know why I can't see ____.....LOL!!!!

Seriously, the shift fork makes sense and I am thinking that maybe the MGW shifter might be a better option than the stock shifter assembly. Thanks Clevor 362

As far as the syncro's, I am not sure on that either Travis, however thanks for letting me know that I am not alone here!

Boomee, I believe we have a Tremec TR6060 and the 11 & 12 GT's have the Getrag MT-82. The NHTSA I believe might be looking into the MT82 now because of all the problems reported...

Thanks a lot Guys!

I have a 2009 and I was experiencing the same thing as you. I have learned to shift it by only pulling with my 3 fingers, you almost shift it in two motions...its like click...click, and its smooth every time now. If you try to shift in one motion it will grind slightly. I have had it checked by an SVT tech twice and have had the TSB done. It minght sound crazy but it works for me. Hope this helps.

I will try that as well Topsales. Sounds like a good option. I don't ever speed shift the car at all, just kind of take it easy and enjoy it. I do like to feel the power sometimes but I am never really hard on it. Too much $$$$ invested to beat on this puppy :)
