: 1-2 Shift still a problem on 2012 Models?
2012 Shelbyman 04-25-2011, 10:48 AM After breaking my new 2012 in I finally decided to try banging a 1-2 shift and ground a pound instead to getting it into 2nd. Is this still on issue on the 2012too? I know prior years had problems but thought Ford had fixed this. I really don't want to put on the WOT box and possibly screw up any possible warranty issues to resolve this. Do I need to take it back to the dealer (don't really want to do that either).
Thanks for your input,
2012 Shelbyman
Shelly's Shelby 05-01-2011, 07:50 PM welcome to my world, mine has done it since day one. I now have 900 miles on it.
It goes to the Dealer Thursday... We'll See what they say.
Have had my 2012 for 1400 miles and also have the 1-2 shift problem. Tried the solutions from previous threads like shift technique, etc. to no avail. The dealership acknowledged that a TSB exists, but it appears to be the one previously posted about changing the transmission fluid to a the dual clutch fluid, but that appears to be for the regular GT. Should happen this week, and I'll let you know if it helps. As I'm in Texas, and the fix discusses cold weather improvements, I'm not hopeful.
jaybass1 05-02-2011, 04:57 PM Where in Texas are you? I had the same problem and I think it is fixed now after I took mine to the dealer
Out in the country north of Dallas.
What did your dealer do to fix it?
jaybass1 05-02-2011, 05:53 PM I had mine repaired at Sam Pack Ford in Plano. They replaced 2nd gear, synchros, and blocking ring. I will have to look at my warranty reciept to be sure, but maybe the shifting fork and rail were also replaced
Now once I got it fixed the service manager went into a long speech about how he was gonna fix it this time cause the car was only 6 weeks old. That the car was a performance car and not a drag car. And that I could not be "slamshifting" ( as he called it) the transmission. That is the short story.
Believe it or not I didn't blow up, I wanted to and make a big deal of it. But I figure I might have to go back there and have something other than tranny work done.
Get a WOT Box from N2NB after you get your transmission repaired. I would not have believed it works, but it really does help.
Spazpilot 05-02-2011, 06:48 PM Man I can't believe you went to Sam Packs!!!. I went to the one in Carrollton for a reverse grind. After there repair, my tranny was all scratched up from be dragged on the floor. the bolts were rounded off and the wire harness was dangling because they ripped out the fastners from the harness. I had to retape the fastners back on. Check under you car if I were you the harness on the passanger side is really close to the cat and could start melting. the fastners are just electric taped on so its an easy fix. I also have the 1-2 gear grind but am looking for a better dealearship in the north dallas area.
jaybass1 05-02-2011, 06:58 PM I figured I would get better service from the dealer that i bought it from, and i think i did. I looked at the car while it was up on the lift and it all looked ok to me, nothing out of sorts. This weekend I will look and check it out again
But I did get it fixed best I can tell. I have run the car a few times and no problems so far

Did you install the WOT Box and wouldnt that affect the warranty?
Slowbra1 10-27-2011, 06:15 PM My car has the same issue its two weeks old.
cjgt500 10-27-2011, 08:16 PM Have had mine for about a month with 500 mi. It has happened a couple times to me but I think it has only happened when the engine was at temp but not the trans. I have run it hard 1-2 with no problems after driving for 15-20 min. I was told this trans does take a while to break in and when new it will have issues until the trans comes up to temp. :shrug03:
Tejas500 10-28-2011, 06:19 AM 2012 here, two months old and 2000+ miles and mine is doing it about 60% of the time. I bought mine from Bankston of Frisco, I need to take it in but I am not sure if they are the best dealership to handle this. Super annoying that this has been going on since 2007 and the factory hasn't acknowledged that there is definitely an issue with the Tremec tranny in our cars.
I will be setting an appointment up for next week.

If they don't take good care of you, try that dealer Sam Pack of Plano. They are pretty good with the high performance mustangs.
VNMOUS1 10-28-2011, 07:18 AM Gotta tell ya guys, I had my 5 year old, 30,000 mile, track abused Tremec apart not long ago to troubleshoot a related issue. The inside of the trans looked like new. Even the old style syncros were fine.
So I do believe there are isolated instances but I don't buy the global "they all suck" position.
Every newer one I've been in is less tolerant than my 07 is of too much lateral/left pressure on the stick during the 1-2. If I concentrated on letting it come straight back through the gate on its own, it was smooth.
Just another perspective.

That's good that the some shift great and some don't. J/K, after looking into all the complaints about the TR6060 on the Chevy message boards and the Chrysler/Dodge message boards and the Ford message boards and Tremecs own website I would say this is a widespread issue that Tremec and all manufacturers using this transmission need to address. It made my CSI satisfaction sink.
But I do really like the car, I just don't like having my car at the dealership for a major repair after three weeks of ownership.
Just my two cents.
VNMOUS1 11-05-2011, 09:34 AM Keep in mind that the Chevy complaints don't count because they can't drive.

Slowbra1 11-10-2011, 08:35 PM Ford is now telling me that the 1-2 shift gear grind is "normal" and the noise when the car is in second gear is also normal.
