Any $500 fee would be a dealer mark up, not a Ford fee.

The way the $500 svt fee was explained to me was that every SVT Dealer here in Canada is being charged $500/GT500.
Even so, I don't mind paying for it. Here's the break down of what my new Black-no stripe Coupe will cost:

Shelby Coupe.....................$51999
Destination and Delivery.......$1200
Air Conditioning Excise Tax....$100
SVT Fee............................$500
----------------------------------------
Total MSRP for Canadian Coupe........$53,799

And now for the 6% GST (Alberta)....$57,026.94

Not bad for 500 ponies...
Should be fun!

Hey gt 500, what colour are you getting? I am thinking that I'm going with Black-No Stripe. The way I see it is that people will know what it is when I drive by them, no need to advertise it with the stripes.
Not to mention the fact that I heard that Ford was going to offer the "Stripe" package to all Mustangs...
Your thoughts?

Oh, the games people play now. The Greed is spreading to the great white north...
I just heard from the Dealer, instead of a $500 svt fee, that's been translated into $5000. I don't think that I will be getting this car this year, I am going to stay on his list and wait for the car to come down in price. I will not PAY above sticker price for this car. As cool as it is, no way. Not gonna do it...

I have just cancelled my order. My dealer was asking $84,000 for a convertible though the first $5000 went straight into his pocket and doesn't even show up on the bill so the contract is made out at $79,000.Thus $5000 lost in case of theft.
So I ask him for my 5k deposit and he tells me he has to find a new buyer and when the new buyer gives him his 5k deposit he'll call me back and give it to me.I'm still waiting even though after an hour had gone by he calls me up laughing and tells me he sold my spot for 90k.What class!
So I said to myself f... this.
I went to a dealer closer to home and ordered a Mustang GT convert white with red interior then home and ordered a complete Cervini's setup.Bought 20inch mags and tires.:p
Buy next summer my GT will be a C-500 instead of a GT-500.And i'll probably go rub it into my SVT dealers face.

What's up in Canada land w/the Shelby market. I have a customer I sold a Shelby to today from northern US & he told me that '07 Shelbys were bring $100-110k in Canada. Is this correct? PC

Sofa King

In Canada SVT dealers have exclusive rights to the Shelby in the 2007 model year. I am the sales manager at a small (NON SVT) dealership and we will not get any. I have three customers who want one. I sold an 05 GT coupe to one guy who wants a Shelby so bad he was going to sell his Challenger 440 4-speed. After talking to an SVT dealer, and finding out that they wanted $110,000 for a coupe, he decided to keep his '05 Mustang and his Challenger. $110 is double MSRP. Trouble is that with so few Shelbys destined for Canada, he will probably get his price.

I paid MSRP for mine as well.

2008 coupe standard vehicle price = $54,299.00
Federal Excise Tax = $100.00
Green Levy/Federal Tax $1,000.00
Shaker 1000 Audio System = $994.00
Destination and Delivery = $1,250.00

Total before tax = $57,643.00

With 6% GST (only tax in Alberta and paid for it in full in September 2007) = $61,101.58

Welcome and where are you from 2COKEMAN?

I'm in Calgary.

I paid 48,900.00 plus tax (5% GST only in Alberta) which is $13,000.00 below MSRP for a new 2008 Convertible last summer. I'm sure a lot of SVT dealerships will try everything for the first few months to sell well above MSRP hoping someone is ready to pay whatever for a piece of history.

I'm in Ontario, but if it's good enough I'm not opposed to going to NS to get it. But I'll get hit with 8%, on top of NS HST, bringing it back home so it'd have to be pretty sweet. Out of curiosity what would it run all inc.?

edit: I'm not 100% about the tax having never purchased an out of province vehicle, but I suspect that it is not avoidable.

I'm in Alberta and purchased my car from Wood Motors in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I paid GST only because there is no PST in Alberta. The car was shipped directly to the local SVT dealership in downtown Calgary at no cost. In reality Wood Motors never saw the car as it came directly from Michigan to Calgary when it was complete.

You don't need to go pick up the car.

They are a great dealership and will give you a great price.

Google their dealership, give them a call and talk to Howard Stymiest. You won't be disappointed.

Arbour88

Hey John,

That's correct for vehicles coming right from the factory. They can be purchased from any dealer and shipped to another dealer.....you still just pay the single $1250-1300 freight charge (included in MSRP).

Obviously, when the car is already at the dealership, you will have to pay the original freight charge (included in MSRP) plus the additional freight charge to have it shipped to another destination.

There are a lot of dealers who have their allocation of 2010 Shelby's already on their lots, so ordering another may be a little tougher (especially now with the upcoming 2011's). Plus, I would be surprised if a dealer will sell a Shelby straight from the factory for less than MSRP, when they already have some on their lots that they can negotiate pricing on.

I'm guessing when you purchased your car in '08, the dealers in Calgary were still gouging people with the dealer markup......probably selling in the $75k to $85k range, which would probably explain why you purchased from Wood Motors in Fredericton. In '08 there was no problem for a dealer in the Maritimes to sell an '08 at MSRP and still make profit.....especially considering they never handled it at all.

I'm in Ontario, but if it's good enough I'm not opposed to going to NS to get it. But I'll get hit with 8%, on top of NS HST, bringing it back home so it'd have to be pretty sweet. Out of curiosity what would it run all inc.?

To my best knowledge, if a car is purchased her in the Maritimes from an out of province resident, only a portion of the taxes are paid. The remainder is paid when the vehicle is licenced at the DMV in the residents province. As long as the price is right and the dealer in another province isn't flexible on the price, then it may still pan out to be a better deal even after shipping. I'm not 100% sure how it works for Ontario residents. I'm just going by experience with NL, PEI, NB, and Quebec sales. John may be able to help out here, since NB has a different tax then Alberta.

Arbour88
01-27-2010, 02:06 PM
That is correct Once_Bitten. As an out of province resident, you only pay the applicable taxes pertaining to your province as you will register the car in your own province.

And yes, you are also correct that when I purchased my car in July 2007, the dealers in Alberta were asking anywhere from $15K to $25K over sticker, so I went looking for the best deal and ended up in New Brunswick as they were willing to talk to me at MSRP.

I know that in today's market, you can deal below MSRP as they want to move these cars off of their lots to make room for the next model year which will be coming very shortly.

You can do much better than $62K that's for sure.

For that kind of money you may as well buy the KR listed on this forum by 1BadSHO for basically the same price converted into Canadian and you'll have 1 of 1,000.

If you folks buy a Ford in the US is the warranty still valid in Canada?

I had heard that some of the motorcycle warranties didn't survive the border crossing.

Just curious. :silly:

That's true. There's only a few manufactures that honour the warranty. I can't remember which ones do and don't, but I can say for sure that Honda and Toyota do and BMW doesn't.

That's Ontario with their new stunt driving laws aimed at stopping teenagers from road racing. There has been several kids killed due to road racing in the past 10 or so years, so this is their attempt to get the kids off the roads.

Other provinces don't have those strict laws. I live in Alberta and our laws are much more relaxed. I think we are one of the last provinces where radar detectors are still legal.

I can't say that I agree with Ontario's fines, but if that takes the kids off the roads and pushes them to the track, then all the power to them.

Not trying to start anything, just want to get the history facts straight.

I know that Texas wasn't a state until sometime in the mid 1800s. In 1776 the then 13 British colonies declared independence from King George III of Great Britain and declared themselves the United States of America claiming sovereignty and basically rejecting and allegiance to the British monarchy. By the way, the revolutionary war actually started in 1775 and did not end until 1783.

I think you are making a reference to the events of the Boston Tea Party of 1773 whereby the colonists in Boston refused to return 3 shiploads of 'taxed' tea to Britain and instead chose to board the ships and tossed all the tea into the Boston harbour which was essentially the beginning of the American Revolution.

I like American history.

You should read up on the war of 1812. We've been very close friendly nations since.

I've been out of school for some time now, but I'm almost sure that even in today's grading there such a thing as an 'F' minus, but thanks for the 'A'.

I agree that the pricing of GT500s in Canada suck big time, but we have our dollar to blame for that. 5 years ago, our dollar was at $0.80 U.S. which is why the automakers were charging that much more for the same car in Canada. Now that our dollar is at $0.98 U.S. (and hovering at parity) these same automakers should be bringing the MSRP down to the U.S. levels, but why would they do that when they can get another $5K to $10K from the Canadian market?

I had to wait (which helped) stick to my price limit (which also helped) and pushed hard (which simply had no effect) to get that price. I've been to five SVT dealerships multiple times and most are sitting on significant supplies of 2010's, there are I'd guess 40-50 2010's within easy driving of anyone in the GTA sitting on lots. You can easily get 1-2k off but that's it. I simply had to wait until this one volume dealership got sick of having them there and get worried about the 2011's. Even with some deals out there and lots of stock sitting about, unless you get lucky or do your homework most buyer's around here will not get that amount off ( I don't think) which is a shame. Maybe things will change with the 11's on the lots.

Speaking of 2009 KRs - looks like the prices are dropping in some places. Here is a Windsor, ON dealer offering it for "below cost" (listing it at $57,499) and will ship it anywhere in Canada:

I just picked up a 2010 Shelby Coupe (Graber Blue) 3 weeks ago for $53k, with the Employee pricing promotion. Car is worth every penny :)

There are nearly 50 2010 coupes and 17 convertibles left in the country. With employee pricing available on 2010 Shelbys until the end of August, this just might be the right time.
