Problem with dealer providing title

Hello folks...I'm not sure which forum this should go in.

I need to vent, and maybe get some advice.

I bought my 2012 GT500 SVTPP Convertible the last week in December. I paid cash. Since then I've been given the real run-around on getting the title. I need to get the title in order to get a registration in order to order new tires from my company. Furthermore my temporary tag expired last weekend and they were supposed to be sending me another. Guess what? Never happened. Now this weekend should be beautiful, top-down weather and I cannot legally drive my new toy.

I've repeatedly asked the GM to call me, and you guessed it, after numerous promises, he never has. They said they are looking for the title. This really scares me. Did I buy property that is not legally theirs, and therefore now I have no legal right to it after shelling out $38k?

It's been almost 2 months now. What should I do?

Anyone happen to be in the Columbus, GA area?

What a cruddy situation. Thanks for listening.

Chris

Re: Problem with dealer providing title

Probably not much help but a lot of times there are loans on it in other states that hang you up. Could be a problem with that. They probably did not have title in hand. When i got mine it was still owned in another state so had to wait until that cleared. They shuffle these cars all over the country

Chris, sorry to hear this, man. I can't imagine the stress. I wish I had a "solid" answer for you but here are a few thoughts off the top of my head.

-- what about contacting the Better Business Bureau? Could they help?
-- is there some sort of state government agency that you could call to get some advice or help? Maybe the GA Dept of Rev?

https://dor.georgia.gov/customer-service-operations-0

-- wild thought --- what about calling Clark Howard? Not sure if you know him or not but he is a consumer advocate. Google him.
-- another consumer advocate in GA is Dale Cardwell

-- I listen to sports radio on the way in to work in the mornings. This guy is on sometimes and seems to know his stuff (the law). He might be able to help.

Got the signed proof of ownership but it was just from the next state over. I beileve it was like 4 weeks. Was in time to register the car. Hope ya get it straightened out. I would not worry about it not being yours if you got it from reputable dealer.

Re: Problem with dealer providing title

What did they give you for paperwork? Is this a brand dealer like Ford, GM etc?

State attorney general might be worth a call

Why don't you post the name, address, and phone number of the dealership you are having trouble with.....someone in that area might just stop in and pay them a visit....

Bring the car back to the dealer, ask for a refund, if it's an issue, call your local LEO.

Re: Problem with dealer providing title

I think a trip back to the dealer and a sit down with the manager/owner may help. Face to face issues stand a far better chance of being resolved than phone calls or e-mails. Keep us posted. Regardless, I'd talk to the owner first before going outside to involve other agencies.
