I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a set of new tires and based on the reading I've done I was going to go with the MPSS.
I was at my tire dealership today to get some pricing and he suggested I consider the Nitto NT555 G2 as well. The price difference was unbelievable. The Nittos were about $800 cheaper for the set compared to the Michelin's.
I was wondering if anyone had experience with the the above and what they thought.
Would the Nittos be a good choice considering the price difference.
Stay away from Michelin MPSS 295/35/20 on stock svt pp 20x9 wheel as I and many others expierence the death wobble accelerating. I thought you were going to widen your stock svt pp wheels.
Yes, widening my stock SVTPP rims was going to be what I was going to do but after some research, the cost of widening the stock SVTPP rims along with shipping back and forth from Canada made no sense cost wise (about $1400) so I opted for a new set of rims and tires and store the stock ones and possibly sell them later.
I bought a set of Shelby Venice rims and the rears are 10.5".
Would there still be an issue with the wobble with the MPSS?
I've picked up a set of Venice wheels after researching widening the stock rear wheels with about the same results.....

I spoke with my local tire shop about tires and he is steering me towards the Nitto's NT555 G2 also.
He had the MPSS on his Camaro and he was not really thrilled....commenting more negative in 40 to 50 degree clear sunny days..kind of the death wobble on hard acceleration.......he switched over to the Nitto's and is much more happy.
With the cost difference...I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Nitto's in the next couple of weeks.
Don't know anything about Nitto tires but the Michelin tires have a 30k mile warranty. if you decide on the Michelin Super Sports be sure to read the fine print about not driving on them below 50 degree F. .

I don't think it matters which brand of tire you get, a 295 is just too wide for a 9.5" wheel. Even the narrower tread 295's are still pinched on a 9.5" rim resulting in most cases less contact patch then a 285 tire on the same rim.
The Invo's seem to have a good reputation. Kumho came out with the PS91's last year that stack up respectively against the MPSS for a fraction of the cost. Might be worth checking them out.
I went from NITTO to Pilot SS for my street tire.
There is no comparison.

...and as others have said, be cognizant of tire size. Squeezing tires on wheels that are too narrow and outside of the Tire Manufacturer's recommended specifications is stupid.
I'm looking at new rear tires also right now in a 315 35 20. And I was going to go with the Toyo R888 315 30 20 but found they are over an inch less in diameter. The NT555 seems to be the one that is at the head of the list for me. I'll be going from NT05R's which lasted an unbelievable 4 years but were not fun in the rain.
I ran a 315/35-20 in the MPSS and it's over an inch taller than the SVTPP rear rubber. I think a 315/30-20 is both closer to stock diameter and a better choice, if you can find a tire that suits you made in that profile.
I put Nitto 555R's on the back a couple months ago and wow... Completely different car. It flat out hooks up (after driving a few miles to get them warmed up). I was grinnin and gigglin like a little kid for 2 days after having them put on.
I didn't even notice the G2 part of this thread. I have the NT55R's.
When I bought my car, it was my DD so i put Nitto Motivo's on, the backs lasted 2 1/2 years and 19000 miles. They worked and i felt safe driving in the rain (although i kept the RPM's low). But now i have a beater to drive on cruddy days and love these 555R's. Being stock under the hood, these tires do great. I just ordered the Stage 4 package from VMP. I have a feeling i might have traction problems again in the very near future?
