Swap a manual base onto a power seat

I don't see why this wouldn't be possible, but I thought I'd ask the question before ordering the part. One of the motors in my driver's side seat base has died. This is the second time I've had this happen. The first was fixed under warranty and I don't really feel like paying $600 for what I consider to be a substandard part at this point.

So my question is can I just buy a manual rack and bolt it right up to the bottom of my power seat?

I don't see why you couldn't. We've had members put a power rack under a Recaro seat.

As for having problems twice... I have to wonder what might have caused the unlucky event twice...? I haven't heard of any seat motors going out on members. Do you have different drivers that are constantly moving the seat around? All of my electric seats work fine, even my old '93, but the only time the seats get moved is when my 15-year old drives the cars.

I'd call all of the junk yards near you. Also call some of the big Mustang yards listed on the internet.

The first one failed early on so I suspect it was a manufacturing defect. The replacement has made it almost 4 years, so I don't know. Just bad luck? I'm the only one who drives the car and I move the seat only a handful of times a year so I can't believe it has crapped out again.

I'd much rather put some aftermarket seats in at this point than spend that kind of money on the tracks, but I really don't want to deal with the side airbag issues. That only leaves me with the option of going with the Recaros, but it's slim pickings. I haven't been able to find a red stripe pair anywhere.

Not far from you, Winchester VA. I'd be happy to take it off your hands for any reasonable price, OMB.
