This applies to cars "today" moreso than "recent history." For example - try finding a low-mileage '87 Turbo Buick GN (or even T-Type Regal) for sticker...I can't seem to find one for less than $30K with less than 10k on the ticker. Not to sideline the thread, but just want to throw it out there.

No '15 Shelby...did he say why? Anything to do with changes to the platform?

Ahh, but you're forgetting inflation. Pop the original MSRP of a GN into an inflation calculator and you're north of $36K today...

I'm afraid that only the GNX has pulled-well-ahead of its original price.

Regarding "driving them into the ground", I love the guys who treat their special cars like holy temples... It's THOSE GUYS who are taking the bullet, diving on the grenade, such that I'll be able to enjoy looking at their beautifully-preserved classic at a car show 30 years from now after all of the "driven into the ground" ones have been recycled into I-phone chassis and microwave ovens...

So never get all Judgy McJudgealot towards guys who use their Shelbys in small/glorious/gratifying doses... They're taking it easy for all us sinners (Big Lebowski reference... )

Mods: VMP TVS, 2.4" pulley, VMP elbow, CJ dual-65mm TB, res-delete, AFCO H/E.

660.42 rwhp, 641.74 rwtq

Dyno results were with old 2.59" pulley and before the AFCO H/E...

Interesting as I thought I read the current licensing for Shelby was only through 2015.

I personally look for Ford to dump the Shelby name and go back to Cobra after 15. They owe nothing to the greedy family that started fighting over stuff before the funeral was over. I can't see them paying for the name for a car that has nothing to do with the family.

Out of all the cars above only 2 are selling for more then the when new sticker price any one care to guess which 2?
Ford GT's... my dad's has gone through the roof on value.

My second guess would be a Hennessy?




I have heard through the grapevine that they will make the 2014 Shelby GT500 because they have already scheduled for materials...then there will not be a 2015 high performance Mustang. In 2016 Ford will come back out with a new high powered Mustang and just name it SVT.

Yes Ford Gt with 4000 produced over 3 years
Second is 93 Cobra R with 107 produced the 95's have never done well, and IMO the 2000 is one of the coolest bargain cars out there now.

My dad also has a Ford GT, dark blue with white stripes... I don't think he expected it to appreciate in value, although he's not the kinda of guy who ever sells anything.

Maybe we should start a new thread listing modern cars (let's say unleaded fuel cars) or trucks that, if you had bought one new and just "stashed it" (with allowance for occassional exercise miles of course), you would be ahead of inflation today. I'll start...

1978-79 Trans Am L78 (400 4-speed) Y84 Special Edition

1987 Buick GNX

1993 Cobra R-model+

1993 Saleen SA-10

2004-06 Ford GT


That's all I can think of currently... The '89 Trans Am 20th Anniversary (Buick Turbo powered) is close, but still slightly trailing inflation I think..

I find it crazy the prices people are paying for 1993 Cobra R's versus 1995's... If you drive the two cars back-to-back, man o man, there's no comparison... The '93 is a turnip truck compared the '95..

+10 Nice family he has/had!!

My guy may just said no 15, then back to 16...If the rights are done in 15, makes sense to go to another name. So if the 14 is now the "last" Shelby GT500, does that make it a collectors item? (I don't care...I have my 13 and am happy as a pig in chit)
